What is PTE?
Planning for a migration to Australia? Or pursue your higher education in the London Business School, Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business or Yale University?
PTE is your first step to the journey.
The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a test to evaluate the English language proficiency of non-native speakers of English. It is a computer based exam which can be used by test-takers for applying to a wide range of universities abroad as well as for immigration purposes. Conducted by the Pearson PLC group, PTE is approved by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the organisation which owns the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test).
The Pearson Test of English (PTE) tests candidates on two bases broadly: Communication Skills and Enabling Skills. As a part of communication skills, PTE tests you on the four macro skills of language: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The enabling skills include Grammar, Oral Fluency, Pronunciation, Spelling, Vocabulary, and Written Discourse.
Unlike other English Language tests, Pte focuses on real-life usage of English in academia or work space. A holistic language is used throughout the test, with a variety of accents which candidates are likely to encounter in the English-speaking countries.
Conducted on the various modules mentioned above, the test is of approximately 3 hours.
PTE results are made available within five business days from the date of the exam and are recognized as a benchmark for English language proficiency in visa applications for Australia and New Zealand. Some other countries which recognize PTE scores are Canada, Spain, France and China.
It is recognized by more than 6,000 organizations across the globe. Test centers are located in fifty countries worldwide. It is especially useful for students as they allow test scores to be sent to any number of universities and institutes without any additional cost of sending them through (The list of colleges who accept PTE scores are given below).
The test is full proof as it uses computer based software for scoring and analysis of papers of test takers while using state of the art technology like digital biometrics and paperless test results for a non-biased result. Finally, the test is available almost each week all year round, the slots of which can be booked online whenever you think you are good to go.
How is PTE scored?
PTE scores are based on the Global Scale of English, under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or CEFR. Each candidate has to answer 70-91 questions, and are evaluated on a numerical scale of 10-90 points. Apart from being given an overall score, candidates are also scored separately on each section of the test.
The PTE score is aligned to the CEFR scale ranging from A1 to C2 in the following way:
The PTE score for academic purposes is valid for 2 years and it has a lifetime validity for migration purposes.
